The thirty-seven practices of a bodhisattva

The thirty-seven practices of a bodhisattva

Venerable monk Jangchub Phuntsok will come again to Bucharest to continue teaching Tibetan Buddhist teachings based on the text: The thirty-seven practices of a bodhisattva.

The Venerable Jangchub Phuntsok will share with us his understanding and experience of the teachings from this well-known text, which he teaches in many Rabten Centres in different countries, including Romania since 2011.

About the Tibetan text

The paper entitled The thirty-seven practices of a bodhisattva (rGyal sras lag len so bdun ma) is composed by the 14th-century Tibetan master Gyelse Thokme Sangpo, who was known as a highly erudite Tibetan master and at the same time a great monk who spent years meditating in solitude.

In the form of thirty-seven exhortations, the text sets out the gradual path to the Rebirth (lam rim) along with specific methods of cultivating the mind (lo jong), which are special instructions for diminishing and removing egocentrism and self-cherishing. These teachings come from the ancient Kadam tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, founded by the Bengali master Atiśa Dīpaṃkākāraśrīśījñāna, and are the quintessence of the teachings of all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.
